Inground pool cost calculator
Pick a pool type and size, then add the extras you actually want. You get a low to high range with every line shown, so you can compare it to real quotes.
Where these numbers come from
The pool line starts from This Old House's 2025 installed ranges for a standard 12 by 24 foot pool: vinyl $38,000 to $70,000, fiberglass $50,000 to $95,000 and concrete $58,000 to $100,000. Angi's 2026 figures are similar (vinyl $40,000 to $75,000, fiberglass $55,000 to $100,000, concrete $65,000 to $120,000), with a national average of $65,909, and Angi says the average 12 by 24 foot pool costs $48,500. At the default 24 by 12 size, the calculator's midpoint (about $55,000 for vinyl, $74,000 for fiberglass, $80,000 for concrete, with permits) sits in the same range as those averages. Note that Angi's own size table lists much lower figures (for example $25,200 for 12 by 24), which do not match its other numbers, so we do not use it.
To adjust for size we scale by surface area to the 0.7 power. That is our own assumption, not published data: permits, equipment and crew setup cost about the same on a small pool as a big one, so cost grows slower than area. The local cost level is also a multiplier you choose. Extras use Angi's 2026 ranges (heater $1,830 to $4,210, cover $870 to $2,800, decking $3,000 to $12,000, fence $1,500 to $10,000, saltwater $500 to $3,300, permits $450 to $1,800) and This Old House for lighting ($450 to $1,200).
How to use the result
Get at least three written quotes and line them up against the table. If one quote is far below the low end, ask what is excluded. Decking, fencing, electrical runs and landscaping are the usual missing pieces. Then run the midpoint through the financing calculator and the yearly upkeep calculator.
Common questions
How much does an inground pool cost in 2026?
Angi reports a 2026 national average of $65,909, with most projects between $44,499 and $87,349. Your number depends mostly on type, size and site work.
Which inground pool type is cheapest?
Vinyl liner pools usually cost the least to build. Fiberglass costs more up front but has the lowest yearly upkeep in Angi data. Concrete costs the most to build and maintain.
Why is my quote higher than this range?
Hard digging (rock, high water table), long equipment runs, retaining walls, and large decks can push a job well past national ranges. Ask for a line-item quote.
