Yearly pool maintenance and ownership cost
Upkeep ranges by pool type come from Angi. Add your own energy, service and insurance numbers for a full yearly cost.
What is included
Base upkeep (chemicals, small parts, opening and closing) uses Angi's 2026 yearly ranges: vinyl $1,100 to $1,700, fiberglass $500 to $1,500 and concrete $2,700 to $4,000. We add a savings reserve for the big recurring job: vinyl liners cost $3,000 to $7,500 and last about 10 years, and concrete pools need resurfacing for $8,000 to $10,000 every 10 to 15 years (both HomeGuide). We spread the concrete cost over 12.5 years, our midpoint assumption.
Energy is usually the largest piece you control. Get your number from the pump and heater energy calculator. Ask your insurer whether a pool changes your premium; we do not guess at it.
Common questions
Which pool is cheapest to maintain?
In Angi’s data, fiberglass has the lowest yearly upkeep ($500 to $1,500) and concrete the highest ($2,700 to $4,000).
Does the yearly cost include a pool service?
Only if you enter one. Many owners do weekly chemistry themselves and hire help for repairs.
