How the payment is calculated

This is the standard fixed-rate loan formula: payment = P x r / (1 - (1 + r)^-n), where P is the amount borrowed, r is the APR divided by 12 and n is the number of months. At 0% APR it is simply P / n. Your lender's number may differ slightly if they count days differently or charge fees.

Shorter term or lower payment?

The comparison table shows the trade-off. A longer term lowers the monthly payment but can more than double the interest you pay. If a dealer promotes a low monthly number, check the term and the total interest here. Read our guide to financing a pool for the main loan types.

Common questions

What is a typical pool loan term?

Unsecured pool loans are often offered over several years up to around 15 or 20, while home equity products can run longer. Compare the total interest, not just the payment.

Should I roll fees into the loan?

Rolling fees in means paying interest on them. Enter them in the fees box to see the real cost.
